Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to the writing I upload?

Nothing is stored. Your files and pasted text are analyzed in real time and then immediately discarded. We do not save, log, or retain any uploaded content. Your writing stays yours.

Is this free?

Yes. The GhostRight Writing Profile is currently free to use with no limits on how many profiles you generate.

What file types do you accept?

We accept .docx (Microsoft Word) and .txt (plain text) files. You can also paste text directly into the text box on the homepage. You can combine uploaded files and pasted text in a single analysis.

How much writing do I need?

We recommend at least 5,000 words for a reliable profile. More is better — 10,000 to 20,000 words gives the most accurate results. The tool accepts up to 50,000 words per analysis.

How long does the analysis take?

Typically 20–40 seconds, depending on the size of your corpus. The tool runs part-of-speech tagging, vocabulary analysis, and dozens of other metrics in real time.

Who is this for?

Ghostwriters who need to match a client's voice, editors who want to understand an author's style, writers who are curious about their own patterns, and anyone who cares about voice and style in writing.

Is this AI?

No. The GhostRight Writing Profile is built on computational stylometry — statistical analysis of writing patterns. It doesn't use large language models or generative AI. It measures what's actually in your text: sentence length, vocabulary richness, punctuation habits, word choice patterns, and more.

Can I save or print my results?

Yes. Once your profile generates, you can use your browser's print function (Ctrl+P or Cmd+P) to save it as a PDF or print a hard copy.

What do the metrics mean?

Every metric in the Executive Summary includes a green "?" hint icon. Hover over it (or tap on mobile) for a plain-English explanation. The benchmark column shows how your numbers compare to typical ranges across different types of writing.

I have a suggestion for improving this tool.

We'd love to hear it! Please email Andrew at GhostRight.org with your feedback, feature requests, or bug reports.
